Patriots owner Robert Kraft and his son Josh Kraft, president of the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation, were joined by current and former Patriots Zoltan Mesko and Andre Tippett in Foxborough Wednesday to hand out the Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards. The Krafts announced 26 honorees who received grants for the organizations they volunteer for. The afternoon’s big winner earned his organization a grand-prize $25,000 grant: Joe Markarian, 92, has given more than 13,520 volunteer hours to the Perkins School for the Blind. QB Tom Bradyshowed up to surprise the MVP crew on the field.

Voice for Joanie, Inc.
“”Bringing a Voice to the Voiceless””

Voice for Joanie, Inc. extends a grateful thank you to the following for their generous support of our recent May 18th Pizza, Pasta and Dessert fundraiser:

Big Y, Boston Red Sox, Emalyn Sweets, Il Colosseo, Joe’s Salon + Spa, Magic by Danny Diamond, Magic Marty Steinberg, New York Yankees, Panera Bread, RNM Entertainment-DJ, Union Savings Bank, VFW Post No. 1672, and Glenn Wilson, DMD, NY Jets, News-Times, Knights of Columbus Council #40, Webster Thomas, NY Giants, The Vita Family and WalMart, Connecticut Family Chiropractic.

A special thank you to the people who attended our event and made it such a huge success! Their support, combined with the contributions, and the on-going commitment of our volunteers, enable us to continue our pledge to supply free-of-charge speech technology to the paralyzed victims of Lou Gehrig’s Disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. Founded in 1990, Voice for Joanie has been “bringing a voice to the voiceless” to nearly 1000 persons in Connecticut and nearby states who have been paralyzed and left unable to speak by ALS and other debilitating diseases. Without our supporters, Voice for Joanie’s life-changing work for ALS victims and their families would not be possible.

Shirley A. Fredlund
Volunteer Executive Director

It is with a mixture of profound gratitude and unbearable grief that I thank you for your generous contribution made in memory of Jesse M. Lewis who lost his life on December 14, 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. It was Jesse’s mother, Scarlett, who decided on our organization as the beneficiary of the outpouring of love for Jesse. This special six-year-old boy not only loved horses but, no matter where he was, Jesse would ask his mother if they could pray for our mutual friend, Bobby, a victim of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease). Scarlett has asked me to forward her personal appreciation for your contribution. Your gift is also in memory of Scarlett’s grandmother, Nancy Coggin, who died in August, 1990, from ALS.

For more than 23 years, Voice for Joanie, Inc. has provided the gift of speech to more than 900 desperate sufferers of ALS — a progressive, fatal, devastating disease that causes complete paralysis. There is no known cause and no known cure. It does not discriminate, affecting men and women from all ethnic backgrounds and all walks of life by afflicting them with muscle weakness and robbing them of their ability to communicate.

Thanks to the dedication of our all-volunteer staff, the generosity of donors like you, and our commitment to “bringing a voice to the voiceless,” Voice for Joanie supplies — free of charge — the best available technology to those in need. Your support is crucial to our mission to help ensure that victims of ALS, and other debilitating diseases, no longer suffer in silence.

On behalf of the Lewis Family and the ALS sufferers you will help, God bless you for your generosity.

Sincerely,

This system has done nothing short of save my life. I know that sounds a bit melodramatic, but consider that at least 10 times a day, I would want to jump out of my chair and run screaming down my driveway! This system allows me to keep my sanity. Having the ease of the Eye Response Unit has enabled me to escape from the reality of my disease.. . even if only for as long as I’m on it. It allows me to communicate –the function I miss the most, it allows me to stay connected to the world, and it has enabled me to finish my manuscript. Gosh, it came along just when I began to experience real despair as pushing around my wireless mouse was becoming too big a chore for anything longer than a couple of sentences. Paul
